Ronald Gar Hoshal of Oakley, age 80, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at his home. He was born in Flint on June 12, 1943, the son of Verne L. and Miriam (Barr) Hoshal. Ron graduated from Adrian College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and then graduated from Central Michigan University with a Master’s Degree. He was united in marriage to Joanne Lorraine Whymer in Owosso on December 19, 1970. She preceded him in death on September 27, 2021.
Ron worked for 37 years at the New Lothrop High School as a Teacher. He was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Chesaning. Together with his wife, Joanne, they loved Quarter horses, which they bred and showed. They were a breeder of AKC German Shepherds that they showed. They were also a breeder of AKC of Cardigan Corgi and Pembrook Corgi dogs that they showed. Ron also served as the Honorary Mayor of the Shiawassee Human Society. He enjoyed golfing and loved spending time with his son and family.
Ron is survived by his loving son, CJ (Denise) Beck of Essexville; three grandchildren, Kiefer, Lola, and Noah; two brothers, Verne Hoshal Jr. and Steve Hoshal; several nieces and nephews; and friends. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2024, at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 133 Commercial Street, Chesaning. Pastor Paul Tessmer will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Oakley. Visitation will be Monday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service.
