Wilho Kemppainen was born on January 31, 1923 and passed away in his sleep on July 11, 2010. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Florence, and his second wife Julie (Borsenik); a daughter, Teresa; and sons, Carl, Philip, and Harold. He is survived by his sons, Michael (Sally) Kemppainen of Ontonagon, Mi; David (Bonnie) Kemppainen of Chesaning; Paul (Char) Kemppainen of Chesaning, MI, and Bruce (Dorothy) Kemppainen of Livonia, Mi. He has 9 Grand children, and 7 great-grandchildren.
Over the course of his life Mr. Kemppainen was involved with the Lutheran Church and most recently was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Oakley, Mi. He was born in Chassel, Mi to Eli and Jenny Kemppainen their only son. Together with his sisters Helvie and Sylvia, they grew up in Chassel, Mi and then moved to a farm in Bruce's Crossing, MI. Wilho married his child-hood sweetheart Florence on June 24, 1942 in Paynesville Lutheran Church.
Wilho was always proud of the fact that he worked his entire life, first on the farm, then at a Farmers Cooperative Dairy in Bruce's Crossing, rising to the role of General Manager. Later, he became a Meat Inspector for the State of Michigan and was assigned first to a plant in Claire, Michigan and then later to Peet Packing Company in Chesaning, Michigan. When the State of Michigan retired their Meat Inspection program in 1982, Wilho went to work the next Monday for the Federal Government as a Meat Inspector. He retired from formal work on April 2, 1988.
Wilho continued working on his hobbies, helping his sons with various construction and rebuilding jobs, camping, traveling, and fishing; and working in his garden raising vegetables, fruits, and roses.
Friends may call at the Misiuk Funeral Home of Chesaning on Wed. July 14 from 2-8 pm and at the church on Thursday starting at 10:00 am.
Funeral services will take place on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church (M-57 and Hemlock Rd). Pastor David Mielke will officiate with burial at Wildwood Cemetery, Chesaning Twp. www.misiukfuneralhome.com
